That's a long list. You are going to have to narrow it down

The churches though, all these old industrial towns/cities, have hundreds of them. And they’re all amazing looking!

A New England mill town Midw estern manufacturing hub that used to be a big deal but then the industry dried up and heroin came to town and it was a really shitty place for a really long time but now businesses are starting to move back into the abandoned brick buildings along the river and the town is starting to come to life again.

I know that story too

Such funky old buildings. Back in the late-90s to early-oos, I remember it being super hip to move tech businesses into these funky old brick buildings. The problem was that the se buildings were definitely not designed for human comfort (which is kind of important for tech workers) , let alone server rooms (which had to be kept in a certain temperature and humidity range back then ) . The retrofitting just to make them suitable for office space was crazy and they were horribly inefficient on power due to all that antique glass.

I’m working in a New England brick palace right now. Bricks! Bricks as far as the eye can see! Out my window? More brick mills!

Before I even opened the page I saw the photo and knew it had to be somewhere in New England . Living near the VT border I’m quite familiar with this aesthetic

It sort of resembles Lowell, MA. Unfortunately, that was the fate of many old mill towns in the northeast. Upstate New York towns suffered the same fate. Some of them, like the town in your photograph, are coming back.

I’m speaking to you from the top right corner of this building. It’s newer than our last office which had a loading platform that went out to the railroad tracks that ran right next to it. When trains would go by it was like a massage.

A r egiona l bank is now headquartered in that low building to the left, and a wire and cable company from the next town over has expanded into the building to the right since I last visited. It’s cool to see my hometown becoming vibrant once again.

My hometown has two dueling brick catholic  churches, you can see both from many parts of town. They're quite impressive inside and out.

Lots of rebuilding like that here in STL. Lots of old buildings being razed, but many more being saved and rebuilt. I'll see if I can find some pictures of one of my favorites, an armory, that's getting a complete overhaul.

That’s exactly what some larger NE cities like New Bedford have been doing.

Here are some pics of that armory building I mentioned earlier. Years ago friends and I would discuss what it would take to save it, afraid it would be torn down. Some of it was just dreaming, like winning the lottery and using that money to refurbish it.

But it’s being saved and repurposed, just like the old foundry on the other side of the highway. The roof and upper windows are done, and I can see that a lot of work has been done to the sidewalks and driveways by nearby buildings which tells me that the city is finally going to repave this underused section of Market Street, which at the current time looks like it had been bombed in multiple consecutive wars - potholes that could swallow an 18-wheeler, dirt, filth and patches, etc. I can’t wait to see the refurbished front doors - they’re pretty impressive.
